Will open source software such as OpenOffice.org and Mozilla have a negative affect on Microsoft?
Could open source software advancements eventually be the death of Microsoft’s proprietary software?

im not sure but mozilla is better than the regular internet although it dosent work on some websites and will crash (just the mozilla) but impretty sure it dosnt affect microsoft
To some extent Open Source will affect Microsoft. However, they are such a monopoly that I doubt it will seriously kill their business, but it may make them rethink some things.

Microsoft will be forced to improve their products to keep up with the features and quality found in competing software (including open source software like OpenOffice.org and Mozilla Firefox). This improvement will cost Microsoft money, which will hurt their bottom line.
If we would all just keep buying the new version of each Microsoft product that comes out every 2 to 3 years without expecting Microsoft to improve their products or compete with other company’s products, then Microsoft would be much more profitable, powerful, and happier.
On the other hand, anything that forces companies like Microsoft to improve their products and services, and to be price competitive is good for the consumer.
