Open Source! It’s free, it’s open, its community driven so you can work on it, and more. If you don’t like tinkering, Microsoft software is the best, but if you’re looking for the most power and value, go Open Source.

You can’t really say that one is better then the other in every situation, it really depends on the details of the system you are trying to design.
