How come we never see any commercials or bus ads for open source software? You can’t argue with FREE. I was thinking about advertising Open Office at my college the other day. If I were to put an ad for OpenOffice 3 on a billboard, would I get in trouble? Someone needs to build awareness of the existence of open source alternatives.
OpenOffice 3 – Another reason to tell Microsoft to suck it.
This is going on the billboard (if I can get away with it)

Everytime I use Limewire I end up with Trojans all over the place. My friend told me that the reason was because Limewire is opensource, it opens your computer up to sharing files with other computers.
However, I don’t want to pay $1/song for my iPod, so is there any safe way to use Limewire so I don’t get viruses?

I saw knowledge Tree on a OpenSource website.
Half of the applications were free.
But, when I went to visit the website for knowLedge Tree, it is different of what i expected.
The users are good, everything is good,
but it costs a lot.
Is there a web application just like it, but free.
Or is there anyway I can get it free? Torrent?

it’s a programming project, i need to share the code with my teacher but we don’t get to exchange data physically very often. so it would be great if there was some kind of shared folder we could both access through the internet and add files or download them. we don’t want to use emails so it’s easier to follow the progress of the project.

The content (the content could be files of any type for example – Flash/DOC/XLS/Power point/AVI/Mp3/CAD CAM) will be at the server and this needs to be accessed over the internet by students. Is there any browser in the market opensource or propreitory that disables the following options like 1.cut 2.copy 3.print 4.printscreen 5.screencapture tools. As the content uploaded is very sensitive and needs to be under maximum security it should also be immune to forthcoming new tools. That means there should ideally be patches being sent to update any new tool developed on a later date.

I’ve noticed there are alot of free/open source programs that are just as good or better than ones you would pay for, but is there a good one when it comes to virus and spyware protection?
