I want to make a backup because I’m going on a trip and I need to take a backup so my original does not get scratched.

I only want free ware or open-source software that is 100% legal, please.

No one will ever know what Microsoft did, since they will not reveal their code. This will save a lot of revenue of Microsoft, I guess.
