Should I use Open Source or Closed Source Software?

I’m part of the development of a Medium sized Manufacturing company and I’ve been given the task of recommending either open or closed source software for our business needs. I know what each type of software is, but I don’t know enough about them to make an educated recommendation. Can anyone out there help?

Closed source simply means a company made it, open source means usually someone made it but you can modify it and do what you’d like with it.

Closed source costs money opposed to open but it may be easier for your company.

don’t forget even microsoft use some of the open source programs, like windows live one care.( That’s from linux) open source in these days has almost 100% of everything you need.

Its is best to take examples of both highlighting strengths and weakness, then making a conclusion. Open source has some excellent development packages, whilst commercial software can be limited as well as expensive.
