Linux Is Free And Opensource And Windows Expensive And Proprietary. Why Windows Is Still More Popular ?

Here is the thing… People have grown to know Windows and do not want to learn all new. But there is also a large number of people that teach Windows and can give their friends help.
Windows does improve as time goes on. With a paid staff of workers, Microsoft is able to add features and correct problems. Microsoft also gets hardware and software suppliers to make drivers and fix bugs. So the quality of the high diversity of applications and devices gets better and better.
The users are STUCK with opensource Linux. Without any help… they just REFORMAT and go back to Windows. At what point did you believe that opensource helps the user that has no technical background?
Now let’s talk about what FREE means. If you have trouble and hire someone to fix your Linux problems; you will have to PAY big money. With a Windows problem, you can probably get it solved much cheaper.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

For starters, people are used to trust and beleive in whatever Microsoft says or does.
Next, computer manufacturers are not putting Linux on their computers.
Next, (and because Windows is used so widely,) many hardware manufacturers are refusing to give their device specifications thus not letting(actually, they will let Linux devs in on their device specs but the Linux devs must promise to keep them a secret and thus not release the source code. This is against the Linux philosophy) Linux developers to write drivers for their devices.
Computer users are not bothered about what OS runs on their computers as long as their computers just work.

Hello Dear.
Most of the technology people says that ” linux is the future operating system”. Actually the general people are afraid to learn and use linux becuase they think linux is hard to use. But the reality is using linux is very easy today. Vista has not performed well for microsoft. So most of the people are switching back to window xp.
Now a days linux is mostly used in servers all over the world. Soon people will start learning and using the linux. One example is the “Most of the Google Systems are using Modified Version of Linux”.

Hi, I am a big fan of Linux. Linux is an excellent operating system but I know of a lot of reasons why Windows will remain popular for a long time unless Linux developers do something about some of their faults.
Reasons Windows is popular:
1.windows is the easiest OS in the world to use.
2.microsoft has the best documentation available for programmers and developers to help them develop stuff for Windows.
3.All hardware just works with Windows and a lot of the most popular software is made for Windows.
4.even though microsoft charges high for Windows, it still looks after its customers and makes sure they enjoy using Windows.
5.using Windows ur system just works and the only thing u need to ever worry about is viruses.
6.Also the success of Windows is due to the main reason that Microsoft is excellent as a company, they really know how to do business and promote their products unlike Apple, Apple just criticizes pc’s and they think they will get popular.
Reasons Linux is still not popular:
1.Linux is Unix which is completely different from Windows and people will always fear being in an alien environment.
2.In Linux every aspect of ur system is under ur control and such power scares users into thinking that any mistake they do can cause huge damage to ur system.
3.Linux has drivers now but they don’t have complete drivers meaning if u connect lets say a mouse with like 10 buttons on Linux, the mouse will work with only the basic buttons and u have to manually configure the other buttons whereas on Windows its automatic.
4.driver installation on Linux has improved but its still not as easy as Windows.
5.Somethings Linux still has a problem with is suspend and hibernate for example when I installed my nvidia card drivers I could no longer suspend and hibernate so I had to change some settings and do some tweaking to get everything to work and some people may not be able to get it to work. This isn’t Linux’s fault though cause companies release incomplete drivers for it. This is a problem developers understand and they will solve it soon.
6.The last problem is with all Unix systems like Linux and OS X and that is games. The market is smaller so no companies bother to make games although at last some companies have decided to release a few games for Linux.
These r all the things I could think of. I hope I helped.
Good Luck and take care!
