How to retrieve data from multiple sites on a specific topic?

Is there any opensource/standard available that can retrieve data from multiple sites. e.g I want to search price of a sunglass from various retailer website with their price and link.Somewhat similar to shopping.com /sidestep.com/froogle etc works.I believe the data source is generic and presentation is depend on the website.Any idea/helpful pointer.

For shipping, you could try something like Bizrate. For general search, try Metacrawler, since it runs through all the major serach engines.
