Does anyone know of a good opensource (free) software for trimming and splicing video?
The software I am using is kodak easy share. It works ok but I it shrinks the files down during editing. The edited videos are unusable because the resolution is so low. Any ideas?
I am using AVI files.

Try windows movie maker.
I have been using Avidemux ( http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/ ).
So far I have only used it with AVI files but I have done alot of editing and it works pretty well. Every once in awhile I run into problems where the audio and video don’t sync properly. In those cases, make sure you say “No” to using their “SmartCopy” option.
I’d like to recommend AVS Video Editor to you, I always use it to edit video and make funny video for uploading to Youtube, it’s easy to use and the quality is awesome, you can crop, cut, join, edit video with it easily. It also embeds many special effects, you can even add text to video or add background music, that’s pretty cool. It worth a try

There are some free editors:

According to my knowledge, few editor can directly accept kodak videos. When you find the proper editor, you may encounter video format uncompatible formats.
