Running a subscription-oriented publication on the net is an interesting
challenge, to say the least. Here at LWN, thanks to the generosity of our
readers, we have actually made a qualified success of it. Even more
challenging, though, is asking those readers to pay more in uncertain
economic times and in an industry where prices normally fall. Please read
on for a discussion of what we’re doing and why – and to learn about a few
new site features as well.
They want me to buy the program for Windows Vista…it is too expensive. If I could download some free software that is opensource later, that is fine, but I need to be able to access my word files now. If you are ging to tell me to download it, give me a link, please.
Google and yahoo are fairly useless these days for more and more searches :
I am in search of either free(ware) or open source software that can function as a chalkboard, a blackboard, and/or a whiteboard.
[seems like blackboard inc has a ridiculous patent that has curbed a lot of development in this area]
MS sharepoint and a lot of commercial groupware would be too expensive to deploy in low-budget school systems on the scale i’m desiring and for the most part have too many features that are not needed
what is mostly needed is the ability to group sketch/edit and thus collaborate from near or far on the board
whiteboard meeting comes close but the fact it requires skype eliminates it from contention
also some of the IM apps out there have some decent interactive sketching ability but afaik they only allow 2 people in a direct IM conversation to see and sketch the same image not a larger group of say 4 or 5 individuals
From the New Ways of Doing Things dept.:
A decade ago, the Linux operating system helped spark a revolution in how software is developed. A move by GlaxoSmithKline PLC could test how well similar open-source principles work for developing new drugs.
The pharmaceutical giant last week opened to the public the designs behind 13,500 chemical compounds that it said may be capable of inhibiting the parasite that causes malaria.
Open-Xchange , which develops scalable and integrated open source e-mail and collaboration solutions, announced the release of Open-Xchange Advanced Server Edition as a cost effective alternate to Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint for educational institutions, public administrations and small- and medium-size businesses.
I need to make some DVD copies of a movie made for a funeral. Just dragging and dropping the files did not appear to work and I found one free program and used it to make a few copies but after a few free copies they require you buy it. Then reading a few reviews on the product at download.com there’s no way in hell I’m giving these guys my credit card numbers
Anyone know of a good one that’s either free/opensource or safe to buy?
i want an open source data base to be embedded in windows mobile application not the actual application…….kindly suggest me some opensource database which can be embedded in vb.net. Some examples of code will be appriciable…
