A slightly less open Ubuntu recovery mode

Ubuntu recovery mode is a basic boot configuration for repairing a broken system. In this mode it skips most configuration files and daemons in order to achieve a functioning root prompt. For the security-conscious administrator this itself is a problem.

De Raadt Doubts Alleged Backdoors Made It Into OpenBSD

From the “he doesn’t think”:
follow-up to last week’s controversy over allegations that the FBI installed a number of back doors into the encryption software used by the OpenBSD operating system, OpenBSD lead developer Theo de Raadt said on a discussion list Tuesday, that he believes that a government contracting firm that contributed code to his project ‘was probably contracted to write backdoors,’ which would grant secret access to encrypted communications. But that he doesn’t think that any of this software made it into the OpenBSD code base.

Study Finds DDoS Attacks Threaten Human Rights

“A new study warned this week that DDoS attacks launched against sites run by human rights and dissident media groups threaten to knock free speech off the Web. The study, conducted by Harvard University’s Berkman Center for Internet & Society, showed that such attacks frequently knocked such sites offline.
