SimplyMEPIS, a very popular desktop Linux, is going to change back to using Debian Linux for its core from Ubuntu. In March of 2006, MEPIS founder Warren Woodford, decided to switch to Ubuntu from Debian for the next version of SimplyMEPIS, version 6. Things have changed….

metaf2xml parses and decodes aviation routine weather reports (METAR, SPECI), aerodrome forecasts (TAF), and synoptic observations (SYNOP) and stores the components in XML. They can then be converted to plain language (text, HTML), or XML with different schemas.

The libevent API provides a mechanism to execute a callback function when a specific event occurs on a file descriptor or after a timeout has been reached. It is meant to replace the asynchronous event loop found in event-driven network servers.

This release fixes a bug that caused corrupt project files to be saved. The handling of automatic cascading primary keys in multi-level identifying relationships now works better. The profile manager is now even more stable. It is now possible to add new database connection types from within the GUI.

The upgrade.php script provides PHP backwards compatibility. It does so by automatically defining workalikes for more recently introduced PHP 5.2 or 6.0 core functions when run in an older interpreter version (like 4.1). This allows developers or projects to safely use the more advanced features of PHP while still supporting most applications that run on outdated servers. It emulates over 100 core functions and the complete FTP, ctype, GETTEXT, and mime_magic extensions, and comes with reasonable emulations for PDO, bcmath, ODBC, and the FILTER extension.

Changes:
This release includes PDO emulation for PHP 4.x. This new unified PHP5 standard database interface prevents SQL injection exploits if you use its prepared statements instead of error-prone string concatenation and manual escaping. Other changes include more detailed phpDoc-style comments in the main script, and file_put_contents() support for the file locking flag. The emulated json_decode() function now supports Unicode escapes and still remains five times faster than JSON.php or the Zend_Framework decoder.

fbpanel is a lightweight GTK-2 based desktop

This release features support for variadic macros, as well as upwardly compatible support GNU cpp’s -x command line option as a synonym for the -lang-x command line option. It also provides a compatibility fix that allows line numbering compatibility with all versions of GNU C, and a bugfix that maintains accurate line numbering when joining multiple-line macros.

WordNet? is an on-line lexical reference system whose design is inspired by current psycholinguistic theories of human lexical memory. English nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs are organized into synonym sets, each representing one underlying lexical concept. Different relations link the synonym sets.
